Women’s Habitat

Women’s Habitat Shelter – Hilditch Architect
Winter 2015
Shelter staff and former shelter clients, collaborated with Sheridan College furniture students and Ontario College of Art and Design University’s textiles students to design and make furniture and furnishings for the newly renovated shelter – a home for 25 women and children escaping domestic violence.

The initial brainstorming session around the core principles of comfort, hope, respect and security generated visual cues that the furniture and textiles students could incorporate into their work

Furniture designer/maker Heidi Earnshaw mentored the students thoughout the design process.  Peter Fleming, head of the furniture program and Chung-im Kim, textiles faculty at OCADU,  guided the students through the design and  fabrication process.
